Construction of Evacuation Balcony on Larsi Continues

Construction of evacuation balcony that was temporarily halted due to this year's natural disaster in Dariali has continued. Currently, concrete layer is laid across the entire length of the balcony, the rails and corresponding roofing are installed; additionally, construction of two out of four ladders leading up to the balcony has been completed.

Commissioned by the Roads Department under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, "State Construction Company", Ltd. is implementing the construction works of evacuation balcony near Larsi customs post.

Erection of this structure was necessitated by the need for prevention of anticipated natural disasters and other force majeure. According to the project, the balcony is being built on the 136th kilometer of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motor road, on a nearby rock of Larsi customs post "Kazbegi". This section of the road is especially tough and has been the epicenter of numerous natural disasters.

A 208.4-meter-long and 2.25-meter-wide evacuation balcony starts out from the customs territory and extends to the Dariali monastery, where special square will be arranged. In case a disaster occurs, people can be evacuated from this square using a helicopter.

Construction of the evacuation balcony commenced in December, 2015 and will be completed this year.

An approximate value of the project amounts to 1,200,000 GEL.

50 people were employed at the site, the majority of whom are locals.
