Evacuation corridor on Larsi customs post

"State Construction Company", Ltd. is constructing a 208.4-meter-long and 2.25-meter-wide evacuation corridor on the 136th kilometer of Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motor road. This kind of project is the first in Georgian and in case of disaster it will ensure safe evacuation of people using Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi motor road, or those working at the customs or on ongoing constructions.

Representatives of Roads Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia and "State Construction Company", Ltd inspected ongoing works today.  

According to the project, on a nearby mountain of Larsi customs post "Kazbegi", on a 7÷12 meter height above the motor road level, 57÷65 pieces of apertures with 1.5 meters of depth is excavating, in which reinforced concrete piers will place. The piers will interconnected with unifying monolithic reinforced concrete plates each 40 centimeters thick.

This construction will cover with a special net to safeguard against loose and falling pebbles and additionally, will be fitted with a metal railing. The balcony will be reached from four ladders placed at various places. The evacuation balcony starts out from the customs territory and extends to the Dariali monastery, where special square will be arranged. This very square affords the possibility to evacuate people using a helicopter.

Twenty-four hours duty is provided in guardroom specially arranged on the glacier Devdoraki. Relevant services shall promptly close the traffic in disaster zone if alarm is declared. 

Construction of the evacuation balcony commenced in June, 2015. The project is implementing bay Commissioned by the Roads Department under the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, and its total value comprised GEl 1,200,000.
