Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi highway section

Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi highway section is located on the main ridge of Greater Caucasus Range, on Jvari Pass in Kazbegi municipality, at an elevation of 2385 m. It starts on km 95+000 near Gudauri and ends on km 106+275 by village Kobi.

Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Larsi highway (with the historic name - Georgian Millitary Road) was and still remains shortest and most convenient route connecting South Caucasus to Russia.

Nowadays this route ensures local and international communication and cargo transportation. Therefore, it has a significant transit function.

With the consideration of monthly increase of the highway capacity, the project aims to rehabilitate the roadbed and surface of this specific section as well as fixing and arrangement of reinforced concrete bridges, pipes, retaining walls for dikes and administering works for traffic safety according to international standards.

"State Construction Company" Ltd launched rehabilitation works in April 2013.

Within past three months land leveling works were conducted. Some damaged sections of the highway by heavy snowfall and landslides that had hindered traffic movement were entirely repaired. For this purpose 39,11 thousand m3 wet ground was removed and replaced by 125,95 thousand minert material. 34 reinforced concrete pipes of different sizes were reassembled and repaired, dike retaining walls were set up. narrowed road sections by ground slides were restored; In addition, construction of two new reinforced concrete bridges were launched.
