Minister observed Adlia coastline reinforcement works

Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia is conducting Adlia coastline reinforcement works. Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, Davit Shavliashvili together with the Head of Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Archil Khabadze, Head of Roads Department of Georgia, Vazha Panchulidze and other government officials observed ongoing works today.

Adlia coastline was damaged considerably during seasonal storms in 2013-2014: Its beach was washed out and coastal infrastructure was destroyed, including shoreline trail and concrete retaining wall. In addition, the freeway stretching just 30-50 meters away from the sea with a daily traffic of 6000 vehicles was endangered.

As part of the project, reinforcement of up to 1 km long coastline is underway: A Riprap is being built and its layers are designed in a way that will prevent storms from washing away the construction. A specific type of berm is being set up in front of the protection building meant to prevent water from destructive surges.

Implemented works will resolve longstanding problems on this specific section of Adlia coastline, preserve beach and ensure safety of vehicle movement on the adjacent highway.

Adlia coastline reinforcement project is being carried out by "State Construction Copany" Ltd on request of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. 60 workers out of total 70 employed on the project are local residents.

Adlia coastline reinforcement project which is financed from state budget and costs 5 mln GEL is scheduled to finish by the end of the ongoing year.
