7 meter tall protection wall will be built on Bzhuzhi River

On River Bzhuzhi the rise of which inflicted 3, 023900 GEL damage to Ozurgeti municipality infrastructure and residents, 7,20 meters tall protection wall of reinforced concrete will be built by the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. Minister Davit Shavliashvili together with the Director of "State Construction Company" Ltd Ioseb Sozashvili and representatives of local government observed ongoing works today.

Construction of protection wall is taking place at the site where heavy rains caused floods in September, wrecking 70 meter long road on 4-th km of Ozurgeti-Shemoqmedi-Bzhuzhhesi-Gomismta highway and blocking traffic movement by village Shemoqmedi.

Residents of 7 villages and up to 5219 residents, including their guests, use Ozurgeti-Shemoqmedi-Bzhuzhhesi-Gomismta highway. These villages are: Shemoqmedi, Kviriketi, Tsitelimta, Gonebiskari, Gomi, Bokhvauri and resort Gomismta. During the season 20% of Ozurgeti residents vacate on Gomismta. After the completion of riverbank reinforcement works, they will travel safely even during heavy rainfall.

According to the project, 400 meters long reinforced concrete protection wall has 6 meter width in riverbed. Its higher point equals 40 cm. The wall is cone shaped and lies 4 meters deep in water. The reinforcement works will include building 100 meter long dike. Construction will be implemented by "State Construction Company" Ltd.

By the decision of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia other projects were carried out on River Bzhuzhi as well. Namely, riverbed was scooped and widened; several temporary weirs were arranged and 36 units of 10 ton tetrapods were placed.

As a result of intensive works carried out by respective services of the Ministry, wrecked sections of the road were completely restored in a few days near Shemoqmedi and Natanebi villages. The decision to rehabilitate all disaster-ridden and damaged bridges in Guria is made for the moment.

Two pipe bridges that connected two villages and were wrecked by the rise of River Ntanebi are already reconstructed in village Natanebi."State Construction Company" Ltd built pipe-bridges, placed metal culverts in the river and covered them with gravel. In addition, 250 meter-long road was also restored which has enabled 6,118 residents of village Natanebi to travel safely to central highway.
